GONZALO SAVOGIN (ARGENTINA) - HYPERCUBE CHAIR
I chose Julia Solano's project "Live as you live" because I find her core message of time and space very interesting.
I translated her concept of time and space into a piece of home furniture, by using the concept of a hypercube, also known as tesseract. This cubic prism is a four-dimensional geometry shape which is formed by two cubes displaced in a fourth dimensional axis, which can be seen in three dimensions as two cubes (or rectangular prisms) joined by their vertices, while it can also be understood as the same cube that moved in time. In this way, it is time, as the fourth dimensional axis, that transforms into space since it allows the hypercube geometry to exist.
HYPERCUBE CHAIR was designed to be manufactured in sustainable stainless steel and a variety of sustainable seating upholstery fabrics, and the chair has appropriate ergonomic shapes and dimensions for comfortable seating.
The strongest point of Julia's project is this concept of time and space, and I hope my work on this design helps to understand how a good concept can be used in a variety of ways for different purposes.
COMMENTS ON THE STUDENT'S PROJECT
Julia's project called my attention immediately. "Live as you live" was an interesting title to read, and when I reviewed her design concept, I confirmed it was definitely a good one. Her idea of turning time into space to live a balanced life is not just a great one, but also makes a very strong concept to be developed in various ways as a design. I think she already has a wonderful way of working, since starting with a good idea is the first step for making a good design. Keep on working hard and studying, with an open mind to learn new things every moment and enjoy it... there are wonderful things and a brilliant future waiting for her.
DESIGNER COMMENT ON CADW
Help is not just a beautiful word, it can also be like a miracle when it makes things happen, it can be the difference between all and nothing. The California Dream Week program is exactly like that: it creates ways and brings hope to students who are looking for a better future comprised of sustainability. I would like to express my most sincere respects and congratulations to all the people who organize, work, sponsor and support this wonderful program, and also thank-you for inviting me to participate. This was a wonderful experience, which I enjoyed very much.
